VENEERS
A beautiful smile is a natural wonder. We love to laugh, smile, and express ourselves by showing people how our teeth look and when we’re not comfortable with the way our teeth look or feel, others can see that we’re not being our true self. Cosmetic dentistry has come a long way over the years and with Dr Innes’ specialist training, beautiful results are obtainable while also preserving most of your natural tooth structure and in some cases all of your remaining natural tooth.
TOOTH WHITENING
Over time your teeth can lose the light, white, bright colour of youth. Factors such as drinking coffee or red wine, smoking cigarettes and even some types of antibiotics and other medicines can cause discolouration or staining.
If your teeth are looking more brown, yellow or grey than they use to, it might be time to consider teeth whitening!
BONDING & WHITE FILLINGS
Bonding, and white fillings are the application of a tooth-colored composite resin (plastic) materials to repair a decayed, chipped, fractured or discoloured tooth, to make teeth appear longer, and as a cosmetic alternative to amalgam fillings.
DENTAL IMPLANTS
Dental implants are a prosthetic device used to replace one or all of your missing teeth. Millions of dental implants have been placed around the world in the last 40 years with relatively high levels of success.
Once the procedure is complete, they look and feel completely normal, just like your natural teeth.
INLAYS / ONLAYS
Inlays/onlays can be made of porcelain, gold, or a composite resin. These pieces are bonded to the damaged area of the tooth. An inlay(which is similar to a filling) lies within the cusps (bumps) on the chewing surface of your tooth. An onlay is larger than an inlay. It replaces one or more decayed cusps. Inlays or onlays can be made of gold, composite resin (plastic) or ceramics. They can last for 10 years or longer and can be a conservative alternative to a crown.
DENTURES / PARTIAL DENTURES
When you mention the term ‘dentures’, some people instantly think of grandma’s false teeth sitting in a glass of water by her bed. But the story isn’t that simple.
Dentures are removable prosthetic devices made of acrylic or metal (or both) that replace teeth – and you would be surprised how many younger people are walking around with dentures.
EXTRACTIONS
Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the bone. If a tooth has been broken or damaged by decay, Dr Innes will firstly try to fix it with a filling, crown or other treatment. Sometimes, though, there’s too much damage for the tooth to be repaired. In this case, the tooth needs to be extracted. Extractions for wisdom teeth and medically compromised patients may be referred to see a specialist surgeon for the procedure.
NIGHT GUARDS / OCCLUSAL SPLINTS
Although looking similar, night guards and occlusal splints are oral devices used for two very different conditions. A “night guard” is a removable acrylic device used to protect your teeth and restorations from the excessively high tooth – to – tooth contact forces due episodes of riding and/or clenching. Some people are aware of these habits and many are not, as they mostly occur during the rapid eye movement part of deep sleep.
HYGIENE / PERIODONTAL HEALTH
Good dental hygiene is very important to your oral health.
What you do at home, your personal oral hygiene (such as brushing, flossing and your diet habits) is just as important as professional dental hygiene carried out at Bright Smiles.
